@Brad, My guess? Because making it easier for them to leave for a competitor is tantamount to making it easier to bring in other pilots to your own airline. Besides, no other airline is going to bring in a senior pilot when they can hire a junior pilot to do the same work. The whole concept of senior pilots exists only as a means for *current* employees to extract rents from the airline.
